How to set WinGate 8.1 Proxy server

Prepare a machine with two Network cards.

One network card as input network interface, the other as output for internet sharing for client, this network interface you can directly connect to a client machine, also you can connect to a network device, e.g. pub.

2. Download WinGate build

You can download the newest WinGate build from the official site, www.wingate.com

This site also provides some knowledge about how to use Wingate and the functions, www.wingate.com.cn this site maybe a Chinese web that provide some knowledge using CHS.

3. Installing Wingate

1. Double click Wingate-xxxx.exe for installing. Need to install Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 for supporting it

Starting installation when Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 installation finished.

Click Next

Click agree license agreement then click Next

Please click “Next” button if you don’t want change the installing file location.

Please check all Program Features then chick Next

After installation finish please reboot your system .

2. After reboot , Start WinGate management from All program> WinGate> WinGate Management

You must add a License for Activate the product before you login Local host.

Click OK

On the License Activation Wizard, choose the Online radio button. The license activation process will detect any direct Internet connections it can use on the machine, however you can select the Use a proxy server to connect to the Internet if this machine uses a proxy server for its Internet connection. Selecting the proxy server selection will open the Verify Proxy connection screen where you can enter the details of the proxy server and the port used to connect. 9 / 18

This instance we uncheck “use a proxy server to connect to the internet”.

We select Activate a free fully-featured 30 day trial.

After you have verified the Internet connection, click Next to open the Enter License screen.

If errors with the activation process then these will appear in red in the Activating licenses screen Please make sure no error in here. 3. Choosing a user database

This instance we using “WinGate user database engine”. Click Next

Administrator is the login username, password is Click finished

Here, you can login Wingate Management console, and then do some configuration for internet sharing for testing.

4. Setting adapter. 1. Set a static IP address “192.168.0.1”for server output Network Card , Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 2. Navigate console to Control Panel> Services>WWW Proxy Server

In the Binding Policy pane, select the Add button to create a new binding policy. 15 / 18

Select the Any Internal adapter check box. Selecting this policy option will allow the WWW proxy service to bind to any Internal adapter that WinGate has discovered. Alternatively you can select the check box of a specific interface that is listed that you wish to bind to the WWW proxy service.

Here we select the check box of a specific interface that is the second Network Card of the machine that IP is 192.168.0.1

Click OK to exit the WWW proxy service. When you reopen the Bindings tab the adapters included in the binding policy will now be displayed in the Adapter pane.

The WWW proxy service has been completed, the Server Address is 192.168.0.1

5. Set Client

a. Set Client IP: scope is 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254, e.g. 192.168.0.8 b. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 c. Set IE to the Proxy server

IE menu bar> Tools> Internet options>Connection>LAN settings (Press Alt key can open IE menu bar)

Go to Proxy server rollout, Check the option of Use a proxy server for your LAN Input “192.168.0.1” to Address, “80” to Port.

Click OK button, Here, you Can Internet via proxy server .
