Dear classmates,

I feel greatly honored to give a speech here. My topic is “Competition and Cooperation”. As we all know, competition exists in every aspect of our life. Competition plays an important part in our daily life. Moreover, the more developed our society is, the fiercer the competition will be.

On the other hand, competition is closely connected with cooperation. In fact, competition often goes hand in hand with cooperation. Competition promotes cooperation and cooperation in turn is more likely to lead to success in competition.

In a word, we must attach great importance to cooperation. And we should always bear in mind that no one is an island. Therefore, we need to learn to be cooperative in a team. Most tasks are finished by a cooperative team.Teamwork matters a lot and cooperation is a key factor in winning.

Thanks for your attention.

Dear Sir or Madam,

1

I have recently noticed the admission information of your university on the Internet. I’m writing to apply for management among all the majors offered to us Chinese students.

For one thing, I do well in English and it will be easy for me to complete the courses in your university. For another, I have been the monitor during my school years, which has promoted my organizational ability. Having organized a few school activities successfully, I’m determined to be a manager as my dream job. Therefore, my plan is to join the Students’ Union and participate in some meaningful social activities to learn some advanced management experience.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Dear Alice,

I’m glad to receive your email. Everything is going well with me. Thanks for your concern. As for how to study Chinese well, I’d like to give you some suggestions based on my experience.

2

Chinese is an ancient language and it is rich in words and cultural contents, so you should first try to learn some useful words and phrases and the cultural background. Second, it is a hard job to learn a foreign language well, so learn Chinese step by step and never be too anxious. Third, you must have confidence and never give it up. Last, practice is the best way to learn Chinese. I think we can talk in Chinese on the phone, or you can write letters in Chinese as often as you can.

May you succeed!

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Recently our class had a heated discussion about the Winter Morning Jogging Activity in our school. Opinions are divided on this topic.

Most students are in favor of this activity. They hold the view that the activity in winter can not only help improve physical health but develop a strong will. Besides, it’s a good way to relieve stress. On the other hand, a minority of the students are opposed to it. They think the activity is too dull. In addition, there is so much heavy study and it’s so cold outside that they would rather stay in the classroom to study.

3

As far as I’m concerned, I support the activity because it benefits us greatly. The modern society requires many qualities of us, so bookworms can’t keep up with the times any longer.

Dear Wang Qiang,

How are you doing recently? I’m writing to give you some suggestions on study and life. For Senior Three students, time is precious. It is high time that we took effective measures to live our life to the fullest.

First of all, I highly propose we make the most of the time in class, following our teachers. Besides, we tend to get anxious with time going by. Take it easy. It’s OK. More importantly, just as an old saying goes, “Health is wealth.” That’s why we have to spend some time exercising regularly. Tired as we feel, we are lucky and happy with so many teachers, friends, and our parents standing behind us. We may turn to them for help whenever we need it.

Do you like my advice? I do hope we will graduate from high school without regrets and be admitted to our ideal universities. Wish you success.

Yours,

Li Hua

Dear Chris,

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble fitting in at your new school. Such problems are quite normal. Perhaps the following suggestions may be helpful.

First, I think you may need to communicate with your classmates as much as possible. In this way, you will get to know each other better. Second, it might be a good idea for you to take part in more activities, which usually involve teamwork and interactions with other students and are therefore good for developing friendly relationships. Last, faced with some tough problems, you might consider asking your teachers, who can usually offer you some sensible suggestions.

I sincerely hope my advice will be of some help to you. If there is anything more I can do to help, please let me know.

Yours,

Li Hua

What I Consider Important in Life

There is no doubt that different people have different goals in their life, and they may have various answers to this question. My opinion is that the most important thing in my life is health.

First of all, life is short for everyone. Without good health, we won’t have enough time to accomplish what we plan to do. We are entering a new century, blessed with new opportunities and faced with challenges. Without a healthy body, how can we catch up with the rapidly changing world? Meanwhile, when we have got wealth and fame but without a healthy body, we will suffer from pains caused by certain illnesses all day long. So wealth means nothing in this case. Beyond any doubt, health is more important than wealth.

In recent years, WeChat is becoming increasingly popular.“Red envelope fever” has swept the country especially during the Spring Festival.

There are many reasons for WeChat to be known. To begin with, WeChat is a relatively cheap way of communication, which cuts down the cost of making a phone call. Next, WeChat is to the taste of the majority of people with its various functions, and it is available everywhere at any time.

However, problems exist meanwhile. Firstly, our identity can be revealed and

6

we can be in trouble. Moreover, it may make communicating with others face to face less. Finally, our attention might be drawn too much to focus on our study.

There is no doubt that WeChat will improve as time goes by.

Dear editor,

I am writing to you to talk about the heavy traffic. Nowadays, people in many big cities are complaining about the heavy traffic. It has seriously influenced people’s daily life and economic development. To solve the problem, I’d like to put forward some pieces of advice.

For one thing, more streets and roads should be built. In this way, we can speed up the flow of buses and cars. For another, the number of bikes and cars can be limited, which can decrease the traffic flow. But the most important thing is that the number of private cars should be put under control. Meanwhile, buses should have their own special routes which cannot be used by other vehicles. Besides, underground train and city train should be developed quickly.

I do hope my suggestions will be taken.

Yours,

Li Hua

Good morning, everyone!

I’m Li Hua from Xingguang Middle School. The topic of my speech is “My Chinese Dream”.

As we know, the education of rural areas is falling behind other areas. And the children there are longing for knowledge. Therefore, the problem about the lack of teachers is especially serious. It puzzles me that my parents and friends aren’t in favour of my idea of being a rural teacher. And they think I am foolish. I understand their thoughts and feelings, but I think the children in rural areas are in great need of me. I will study hard to go to college, thus realizing my dream.

I won’t regret my choice. I will struggle for my dream. Come on and join me!

Thank you!

Everyone has a person he wants to say thankyou to in his deep heart. I owe my great gratitude to my mother.

8

My mother is a primary school teacher who graduated from a normal college. She is a devoted mother as well as a kind and patient teacher. I am attended considerately by her every day, especially this year when I am in Senior Three. She often cooks delicious dishes for me and helps me clean up my room. What’s more, she even accompanies me deep into the night every time I am doing my homework. Most importantly of all, whenever I get upset or lose heart, she will comfort me and encourage me until I have cheered up. I appreciate her motto “Heaven will always leave a door open. As long as you work hard, you will definitely succeed.”

So now I spare no effort to study and focus all my attention on my lessons in order to be admitted to a famous university next year, so that I can reward my mother.

With the global warming getting worse, more people choose to live a lowcarbon life for the purpose of reducing greenhouse gases. As students we have the responsibility to change our lifestyles to fit the world better. The following are some small things that may lead to improvement of the environment.

Firstly, wash your clothes by hand instead of using washing machines. Secondly, don’t take elevators unless it is necessary. Climbing stairs does good to your health and the environment. Thirdly, remember to bring your own shopping

9

bags when you go to the supermarket. Lastly, go to school on foot or by bicycle. Buses produce carbon dioxide, too.

Let’s take action and be lowcarbon people from now on.

Fishing is my favorite, for it is both fun and instructive, which has helped me improve my power of controlling myself.

It was three years ago when my study was not satisfactory and my challenge was my lacking enough patience and persistence that my father taught me how to fish to help me overcome these. Told that fishing was full of fun, I followed him without hesitation. It’s strange that fishing isn’t as easy to learn as it seems. To grasp the skill, I tried hard and eventually became a skilled fisher. Meanwhile, I can focus on my study, which has been greatly improved since then.

Now I share my experience with those with the same trouble, encouraging them to study with their full devotion and attention.

Don’t Stay Up Late

10

Our school has regular rest hours for students. However, we can often see many students do their lessons or other things after the bed time. They usually stay up until midnight.

Teenagers need enough sleep daily. Staying up late may do harm to their health. It can also make students late for class or sleepy in class. Thus, they miss something they should have learned.

It is blameless to stay up once in a while if we do have to take up our rest time for some urgent deeds, but don’t make it a habit. President Xi recently advised young people not to stay up late, which we should bear in mind. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. We really need to make a change to the unhealthy lifestyle so as to ensure our rest time.

Hello, everyone. I’d like to tell you something about the English speaking competition of our city. When you are at the school gate of Guangming Middle School, a beautiful fountain is in front of you. Then turn right and you will see an art gallery. Choose the main road and go straight forward. Turn left at the corner of a science building and go ahead. Then you’ll see the lecture hall on your right hand. You can’t miss it.

During the competition, being punctual is very important. Whoever is late won’t be allowed to enter. Please switch off your cellphone so as not to disturb

11

others. Always keep quiet while waiting for your turn. It’s good manners not to litter around.

Wish you good luck!
