 Seeing is Not Believing

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, it's a great honor for me to be

given this opportunity to deliver a speech here. My topic is Seeing is Not Believing.

As a saying goes---Seeing is believing. This is widely accepted by the public without any doubt. But is that true? Do we only believe what we see? Well, these are thought-provoking questions, because nowadays people judge things only by their eyes rather than their hearts. Imaging that, when you close your eyes, you can not see anything, but the world still exits. It does not disappear. Sometimes vision can be inaccurate, unreliable or even deceived. From here, ladies and gentlemen, have you ever experienced standing in front of a distorting mirror or seeing the castles in the air? Do you really believe your eyes? Absolutely not. Seeing does not give full proof. You need your senses to get information about this world around you. As sound can not be seen, nor taste or touch. One can see it as the most obvious example that you need senses in order to change your beliefs.

Just like me. Young as i am, i feel warm-hearted for everything. So one day, when i saw a phenomena that a large number of beggars gathered on the street(most of them are disabled), i gave them some money out of pity out of justice, without any hesitation. After i did what i thought was good for them, something inside my heart welled up

spontaneously, that is a sense of responsibility .Young but passionate, I couldn't help having this feelings that i might be the person who can help them out of trouble until i found that what i saw then was just a trick. Those beggars disguised themselves as the disabled in order to get sympathy and swindle money out of the passersby. Such reality stroke a chill into my heart and forced me not to be convinced by them beyond natural exploration.

One can only truly see with the eyes of the heart. Often it is hard to see with the eyes of the heart, especially since the eyes of the head depend on visible evidence. \" The essential is visible to the heart\". Seeing is not believing. As is often the case, we shouldn't judge a person from his appearance or his ability but what he can really do for you. In a sense, we can make real friends instead of those ostensible friends.

To conclude, seeing is not believing. In a materialistic perspective, we need data in order to have evidence for testing theories about the world.
