Welcome to this lecture, everyone. Today we’re going to talk about the Chinese explorer Zhang Qian and the Silk Road.
Zhang Qian was a pioneer in setting up the Silk Road. He was an official in the Han Dynasty. At that time, China knew little about the lands in the far West. The emperor sent Zhang Qian to explore and open routes to the outside world. Zhang Qian travelled to many countries and made useful reports on the people and cultures there. His journeys helped lead to the development of the Silk Road.
The Silk Road got its name from the Chinese silk trade. It was started over 2,000 years ago. Although it was called a “road”, the Silk Road was actually many different routes, both on land and by sea. These routs spread from East, South and West Asia to North and North-East Africa as well as Europe. They allowed people to carry goods between countries, and helped spread knowledge and ideas across the world. The Silk Road was important in the development of countries such as China, India and Egypt.

四、回答问题 阅读短文,然后根据内容回答所提问题。 Dear Emily,
In your last email you asked me what my favorite film was have to say that Mask(《变相怪杰》)
is definitely my favorite. I was so interested in every movement that my eyes stayed fixed on the screen the whole time I was in the cinema. So many people liked this film that it ran(放映)for a long time here . I also have a video of it and I've watched that a dozen times. My sister Susan thinks I’m crazy. She watched it once. She was so bred with it that she fell asleep in the middle.
The thing about Susan is that she has little sense of humor. She cares so little about humor that she cannot understand the story. I’m the opposite. I’m such a humorous person that I hate to watch a film without hum our.
A few days ago I saw a list called The Ten Best Films Ever Made. To my great surprise, Mask wasn't on it. Whoever made up this list must have poor taste(鉴赏力). Or maybe they were just so careless that they forgot to include it.
I also sent you the list so you can find out if your favorite film is on it. Best wishes, Judy
1. What is the style of the article? 2. What is Judy’s favorite films name?
3. How did Susan like the film?
4. Did Judy agree with the result of The Ten Best Films Ever Made? 5. Judy doesn't like all kinds of films, does she?
参考答案: 1. An email. 2. Mask. 3. Boring. 4. No. 5. Yes.
