三、阅读理解
Hi! I’m Frank from England In the West, most students will learn a second European language. These languages share a lot in common. But when I started to learn Chinese two years ago, everything was new to me: the way words sound ,one word with different meanings ,and so on.
Sometimes, I have trouble communicating with others in Chinese. As soon as I say hello to some strangers in Chinese, they think I am very good at Chinese. So they begin to talk with me in Chinese quickly. But I feel nervous to look at them. I have no idea what they have just said. Were they being kind, funny or angry?
However, the more Chinese I learn, the more I learn about how much it has in common with English.
In English, thick-skinned is to describe a person who doesn’t care for others’ bad words. I was surprised that we share this phrase with hou lianpi in Chinese. And both languages have idioms(习语), which we also share. Such as “ burn the boats”, which is similar to pofuchenzhou.
I’m still on my journey to learn Chinese well. Sometimes, the journey is where you have the most fun. ( )81.How long has Frank learned Chinese?

However, I didn’t realize how different textbook English Could be from everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School, Connecticut. When I first studied English, I was told to say ,”I am fine” when people say “How are you?”But in the US ,I found that people say, “ I am good” or ”I’m tired’’ .On day, someone greeted me with “What’s up?” It made me confused. I thought for a moment and decided to smile because I didn’t know what to say. Since then, I discovered more and more differences between Chinese and US culture. But here, a “good” student gets good grades, does a lot for the community and plays sports or music. The kids here are so talented. I am starting to be sorry I gave up playing musical instruments at an early age and never thought about sports.
