How to prevent the war of independence

As we all know, the War of Independence was started because of the conflicts between Britain and American colonies, including heavy taxes, trade restrictions, and lack of fundamental rights. So, if I were the English king, I would take the following measures to balance the interest of Britain and American colonies, reducing conflicts, in order to prevent the war till World War 2.

First of all, although Britain accumulated a large debt over the Seven Years’ War, levying heavy taxes on American colonies is not a good idea, which may cause a bigger problem. I would increase the taxes within a rational range and get the money by developing industry, supporting trade and other ways.

And I would not impose restrictions on trade; oppositely, I would take measures to facilitate the trade development. I would encourage the industry development and do some investment. Even I want to help the East India Company; I would not make it in a way of enforcement such as granting the East India Company the sole right on all tea exported to colonies. I would do that by commercial means, like lower prices, providing allowance, encouraging them to trade with the East India Company. Finally, they will be aware that they can be more benefited if they trade with Britain.

Since the American colonies were greatly different from Britain in

religion, culture, politics and many aspects, I would fully respect their differences. I would give them the right to vote in some degree. I can support the candidates to participate the election and make the final decision. Then, the government of the American colonies will still be under my control. And I will permit their religious freedom. As a result, the conflict will be decreased.

When the condition is under my control, I will carry out some military measures. I will send troops to protect American colonies, and of course, their own force power is prohibited. And when all the army in the American colonies is loyal to me, the possibility that they want to be independent and protest Britain is certainly tiny.

In conclusion, if I were the English king, I would try to avoid the conflicts, and try to make my power which can act as a deterrent stronger, so the War of Independence will be prevented until World War 2.
