Covering a wide range of distinct political, economic, and cultural trends, the term \"globalization\" has quickly become one of the most fashionable buzzwords of contemporary society. Travel in almost any city in the world, look around, and you are likely to discover that much of what you see is familiar. You will probably run across \"Harry Porter\" showing at movie theaters, hear \"Gangnam Style\" playing in nightclubs, and spot iPhone5 advertisements displayed in stores. So although you may be thousands of miles away from your hometown, you may feel that you fail to escape the \"global village\" of marketing. Therefore, in this research, two aspects of prevailing globalization, including economy and culture, will be demonstrated.
With improvements in transportation and communication, international business grew rapidly after the beginning of the 20th century. First of all, a growing number of well-known corporations deliver their sevices and manage their products in more than one country. For example, BMW assembles cars in Germany. Through horizontal foreign direct investment (FDI), it does the same thing in host countries such as Thailand and the United States (Peng 80). Secondly, Special Economic Zones have been set up gradually. In order to stimulate local economy, firms, in these certain areas, are taxed very lightly or not at all. Free Trade Zones are a typical example for Special Economic Zones, where trade barries, such as tariffs and import quotas, are reduced or eliminated among member countries. It contributes to free exchange of the labor force
in these regions. Obviously, economical globalization plays a significant role in global integration.
Cross-cultural communication, as another dominant perspective of globalization, is a process for sharing ideas and values from one culture to another. Globalization has continually increased international competition in sports. The FIFA World Cup is the world's most widely viewed sporting event; an estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany (\"2006 FIFA World Cup™ broadcast wider, longer and farther than ever before\2007). In addition to sports, the number of interracial marriages has been uptrend in recent years because it is fairly common to meet and develop relationships with foreiners. According to the U.S Census Bureau, Black-White marriage have been up from 65000 in 1970 to 422000 in 2005(Landry, 2009). Undoubtedly, globalization gives more oppotunities to cultural communication beyond national boundaries.
In conclusion, it is less possible that any country pursues all-round development without contact with another counties. As a result, economic cooperation and cultural exchange accelerate the pace of globalization.
