A stabilizing arrangement comprises two tanks 1, 2 one oneach side of the ship, passage means 5, 6, 7 for transferring liquid through each of thetanks and around circulating paths outside the tanks, pump means 8 for effecting saidcirculation and valve means 11, 12, 13, 14 operable to cause the liquid to be accumulatedin either of the tanks at will and be drained from the other. The passage means extend atthe same general level. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) a third tank 24 locatedcentrally of the ship and communicating via ducts 25 with the passage 5 downstream ofthe pumping means 8 provides for storing of water for rapid release when required.
